The book of Negroes
After our discussion in class i think that the title "The Book of Negroes" is a very appropriate and fitting title for this book. Even though there has been book burnings, change of title and the banning of this book in some country's. I still think this is a good title. Firstly, the book name was taken from an actually historical book about the freedom of black people. In this way, if someone is to search the title, they would see that the title is not so offensive. Second of all the book is written in a way that is very attractive, even though some of the country's burnt the books, they only burnt the front cover. I think another title for the book could be, "a woman's life towards freedom".

I agree with you. I believe that people who are burning the books do not read them, because if you read it, you will understand that it is not meant to be offensive. As you said, it is a historical document. I believe that burning books is designed to intimidate people.The leaders of the Spanish Inquisition burned books, Nazis burned books and I believe that it is disrespectful, no matter if you like the book or not. What Lawrence Hill once said in an interview shows how he things about the word "Negro". "I don’t use Negro in day-to-day language. To this day, I still cringe at the sound of Nigger or Nigga in hip hop lyrics. But there is sometimes room to use painful language to reclaim our own history," (Hill, Lawrence)
